Online degrees

Sunday, March 21st, 2010

With how inefficient the justice system here in the country, I wish there would be miracle and change it in an instant though I know that would be next to impossible. I even wonder why criminal justice degree is not offered in colleges and universities here like in other countries. People in America gets to earn criminal justice degrees online and that is something that we are deprived to have. If only schools would offer an online associate degrees like that of Northwestern College in Illinois, many would have been blessed to earn a degree or second degree from the comfort of their homes.

My oatmeal cookies

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

I tried baking oatmeal cookies early this week (it was Tuesday or Wednesday, I think). I haven’t tried baking pastries ever since (except for macaroons that we are baking years ago) so I am not confident if I am doing it right or not. The first batch was a flop as it turned out to be a large rectagle cookie that filled the whole pan (I used a baking pan because I don’t have cookie sheets)!LOL.I underestimated the spacing so the next batch, I was extra careful not to make a big heap and it turned out just fine.

Ace was surprised to smell something when he got home and was even more surprised to see my oatmeal cookies. After his first bite, he said it tastes so good and encouraging me to bake more so we could sell those goodies. That’s actually my purpose in learning how to bake. The following morning, I packed some cookies in a sealable sandwich bag that he would bring to work. At noon, I received an SMS telling me that the oatmeal cookies are yummy according to his officemates and his boss.*flattered* So it passed the boys’ taste buds. The following morning, again, Ace went to work with some cookies. Then later, a friend came over. I was offering her a breakfast but she refused because she’s on a diet so I gave her the last piece of oatmeal cookies that I baked. Penchie said it tastes really yummy and asked for more. I have nothing to give her because Ace brought everything to work. Before Penchie left, she already placed her order for oatmeal cookies. Since she’s on a diet, she said she’ll have the cookies instead of eating other carbo and it will then serve as her weight loss pills for with a few pieces she’ll be full. Besides, it’s oatmeal so it’s healthy because it’s rich in fiber.

Old Grandma

My maternal grandmother turned 87 (if I remember it right) years old last Tuesday. With her age, she could still walk (though she’s skimping now because of her broken hip bone years ago), she could still name her countless grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren. She has no health issues so far (I hope she’ll stay healthy), she can still talk well and tell stories like a 60 year-old and the only indication that Inang is already old is her sagging, wrinkled skin and her empty gums (I think she lost almost all her teeth). I wonder if a firming night cream could still work wonder on Inang’s skin and make it firmer and make Inang look younger.

Flattering

A friend dropped by the other day so I could check her DSLR. She encountered issues with the auto focus and early that day the shutter button is not working. There might be problem with the camera or the lens so I told her to drop by and we’ll check if the issue is with the camera body or her kit lens.

When I opened the gate, she exclaimed “tumaba ka Kers!” (you gained weight, Kers!) without reservation and I am sure the neighbors heard it. Though that’s not good to hear for some but for me it feels like music in my ear. For more than half my life I was always told I am too skinny and I don’t look good being too thin, so hearing people compliment my weight gain is flattering. However, some friends add to their remarks “don’t go beyond. Your figure now is enough”. They’re right. If I go beyond my weight now, I might end up like a thumb tacks…small and fat. I don’t worry so much about that either because there are fat burners for women or I could control my diet. After all, I am not a voracious eater so gaining another extra pounds will take a lot of effort for me now.

Daily vitamin

Friday, March 19th, 2010
It was days ago when I took the last capsule of my daily multivitamin. Ace, on the other hand, is consuming the cheapo multivitamin that we got the other month. I stopped drinking it because my urine turns too yellowish everytime I take a capsule daily. Ace also stopped drinking it after he got sick that we bought a better and more expensive vitamins for him. Now he must have thought just leaving the vitamins in the fridge’ shelf is a waste of money so he started drinking it again while I drink my folic acid. Hopefully we could buy our multivitamins and my folic acid tomorrow for we really need it to supplement the minerals and vitamins that is needed by our body and yet not present in our diet.
